Melly sitting with legs crossed and eyes closed meditating on yoga mat

I’ve always been a pretty calm and level-headed person. It usually takes a lot to get me upset. However, I am unfortunately someone that stresses easily and I am always inside of my own head worrying about something I said or what someone said to me, etc. Living like this can make it hard to stay in the moment and enjoy things. Other than intense therapy, I was not sure what I could do to help myself.

That is when I discovered mindfulness meditation. Mindfulness meditation recognizes that random thoughts will come and go while trying to find your center, but it allows you to let them pass so that you can get back to focusing on the moment that you are in. Eventually, as you continue to practice it, you’ll get better at being in the moment and you will not get distracted by outside sources. This will do wonders in your every day life as you will find that there are less things that upset you. You’ll no longer sweat the small stuff and you’ll get over the big stuff easily.

Some great ways to get started with meditation are through apps. There are plenty of apps with free options for guided meditations and courses to help you find your center. Some apps that I am familiar with are Headspace, Calm, Insight Timer, and Ten Percent. Insight Timer is one of my favorites because it has more free options than the others. These apps even have sleep meditations for those of us with insomnia.

Have you tried any of these apps? What was your experience with them? Let me know in the comments!
